What Do Your Dreams Look Like
By Kathleen Springer
Tom Alafogiannis sits cozily by the fireplace gazing out his bay window, from time to time, as the boats go by this water front property on Shore Blvd in Astoria. He and his wife Rose purchased this beauty near Astoria Park a few years ago. Water front property has become very desirable the years half of this century. Values continue to soar as the economy booms and this type of property continues to become scarce.
The late Mrs.Whitney was offered upwards of $650,000 in the mid 80's. Tom was lucky to purchase this custom built from the Whitney Estate for a meager $400,000 while the real estate market was down.
The house is situated on an enormous lot facing the East River and Manhattan sky line. The view is spectacular. Although the market was at its all time low, when the house was sold, hundreds of people came to the open house to see the much admired home for themselves.
Tom and his wife Rose chose to reinvest in Astoria rather than move out of the area and keep their other homes near park for investment. Although the lot is larger enough to build several more homes they choose to leave it as is. Tom says,
"I'm just going to relax and watch boats go by." He and Rose continue to be active in the community. Tom is the President of the Greek American Home Owners Association while Rose is still very much involved in the Kiwanis Club of Astoria.
