WHY SHE GOT INVOLVED
"The idea was to have a guide with all the important information that people have asked me over the years about Astoria. I knew a lot, but not everythin about the area, and I thought a fun, colorful map would be a good way for newcomers to learn about the community. We've been giving it out to customers who are buying houses or renting apartments, and they're thrilled."

|WHERE TO GET ONE
"The map is free at our office on Steinway Street until we run out, and every store that participated has a number of copies -- there were about 6,000 altogether. I raised the money by going to each store owner and, when I fell short, three people contributed moe to see that it got done. Now, I'd like it to be an ongoing project."
"Astoria has become very cosmopolitan. It also has a lot of history. A lot of people are moving here because it's close to Manhattan, but it's made Astoria a very interesting place to live."
